MOPS Mom Spotlight: Heidi Sterling
Our spotlight this week quoted C.S. Lewis when he said, “Children are not a distraction from more important work, they are the most important work.” Heidi Sterling believes this with such conviction that she even surprises herself. Having been a small business owner and worked at the helm of a non profit advocating for adults with developmental disabilities, Heidi didn’t realize her life plan included becoming a full-time, stay at home mom. However, she loves it and refuses to miss a minute of her children’s youth. Heidi is mom to Walker, 3.5 and Owen, 17 months.
Building a happy, healthy and positive family life is extremely important to Heidi and her husband. They have both felt the effects of coming from broken homes, and have made it a priority to take the good from generations past and leave the not so good behind. While they look to the past, they are very much making this journey through parenthood their own. Considering the only people Heidi would want to be stranded with on a deserted island are her immediate family, it sounds like they are doing a great job building strong familial relationships.
Heidi encourages kindness in her kids more than anything else. It’s a characteristic that goes a long way to serve people well. Kids need guidance with this concept, as sometimes children can be cruel when they are faced with situations or others they don’t necessarily understand. Heidi grew up with a brother who has special needs. So, she is very aware of how a lack of empathy or kindness can affect a person. So, lead with love and we all win.
Her babies snore. And, it’s her favorite sound. That’s all.
Stop by the Lyra table and ask Heidi about the dress she wore to her brother-in-law’s wedding...
