MOPS Mom Spotlight: Amber Slaybaugh
Our spotlight’s story is one of a love that is bigger than any earthly love. It is a story of faith, love, vulnerability, and an undying hope. Amber Slaybaugh and her husband Jordan are among the ranks of people who dealt with infertility issues. Did you know 1 in 10 couples face this challenge? Amber and her husband tried to conceive for four years before they were blessed with their son, Judah who is now 14 months old. During that seemingly endless journey, this couple endured testing, three rounds of IUI, and two rounds of IVF cycles before realizing their dream of conceiving a baby. The emotions and tests of faith they must have experienced are inconceivable to one who hasn’t walked a similar path. Amber and Jordan leaned into their faith in God and came out the other side having learned the following lessons, in her words:
Heartbreak is real but God is near the brokenhearted
Tears can seem endless, but God dries every fallen one
Patience hurts, but learning it makes you stronger
God answered Amber’s prayers and gave her the power of perspective. It’s a testament to face adversity with such grace, especially when you have absolutely zero control or power to affect the outcome. However, what God didn’t bless her with is a love of doing dishes, or the ability to sing like the angels.
Amber is a woman of principle. Her favorite book is the Bible and if she finds herself with a few extra minutes, she resists the urge to watch television in favor of doing a task that has a more tangible benefit. Like bible study homework. (Ummmm, has she not heard of a new show called This is Us?!) If she’s feeling indulgent she’ll sit, do nothing and enjoy the quiet. Quiet is something that she doesn’t get to experience much these days, and since they’re expecting their second baby, she might as well enjoy it while she can!
Congratulations on your expanding family, Amber, Jordan and Judah!
P.S. No fertility issues the second time around!
Stop by the Vela table to say hi. Thanks for sharing your story, Amber.
