MOPS Mom Spotlight: Sara Forte
It seems mothering has been a character trait of this week’s MOPS Mom Spotlight, Sara Forte, since she was a little girl. As a young daughter, she would “mother” her mother with things like reminding her to get gas if Sara noticed the gas light was on and to grab her purse on their way out the door. Her mothering skills went into overdrive when Sara’s little sister was born. Her mom once found Sara applying diaper cream to her sister - an entire tub all over her body. Perhaps she was a little ahead of her skill set at the time…
As Sara became an adult, her passion for taking care of people manifested itself in her love of cooking. Sara is an accomplished chef and cookbook author. She has published two cookbooks that focus on seasonal cooking using natural ingredients. Her cookbooks deliver tasty recipes that celebrate the season’s bounty while keeping it simple. Her first cookbook was nominated for a James Beard award, which is the equivalent to a Grammy in the foodie world. No big deal.
Sara and her husband both work from home. Because of this, she is constantly juggling between mom duties and work duties, which amounts to a whole lot of multitasking. She has found that it’s best to take a moment and get down on her children’s level and just be there in that moment for her babes, Curran 2.5 and Cleo 10 months. While she’s task driven, she recognizes her family’s needs above her to-do list. What a great mom instinct that can be challenging to do, much less recognize.
Aside from cooking up recipes, if Sara has a free moment, she is most likely eating a meal in silence (amen) or moving her body - exercise helps reset her mind so she can tackle the tasks associated with being a mom, author and business woman.
You can find Sara at the Cassiopeia table. Stop by and ask her for a fresh idea for tonight’s dinner.
P.S. Her blog is awesome - not only does it offer great recipe ideas and cooking tutorials, but it showcases her husband’s photographic talents.
