MOPS Mom Spotlight: Janelle Burnett
Janelle Burnett, our MOPS moms spotlight is a teacher by trade and a student by heart. When asked what she would learn if time nor circumstance were an obstacle, she replied that she would want to learn to play an instrument - any instrument - really well. Followed by, it’s never too late to start learning. “Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, By fearing to attempt.” -- Shakespeare, Measure for Measure. What a fantastic outlook when faced with new challenges - be it learning a new trade, hobby, or becoming a mother!
As a new mom to her seven and a half month old daughter, Sienna, Janelle is learning new things by the day. A lesson she has learned in motherhood has been to savor each moment as they come, the good and the challenging ones. Already, Janelle recognizes how fleeting each season is. Janelle makes it a point to try and be in the here and now as much as possible. Motherhood has also taught her that perfection is not necessary, and if it becomes the focus then you can’t just enjoy the moments as they come. Sienna is her biggest success and she’s determined to enjoy every moment with her. Sage words from a mom at any stage of motherhood!
Janelle was awarded her degree in English Literature, and currently enjoys a career as a teacher, shaping the lives of our little ones. She loves her job and has maintained a position part-time, allowing her to satiate both her love of family and teaching.
“Literature is the most agreeable way of ignoring life.” ― Fernando Pessoa, The Book of Disquiet. When Janelle has a spare moment in the evening, she pours herself a glass of red wine and grabs a book. Being an English Lit gal, her taste in books is quite sophisticated. Like Chaucer and Shakespeare sophisticated.
Don’t be intimidated by Janelle’s elevated taste in literature (she won’t judge you if you loved The Twilight series...) - just stop by the Hercules table and ask her for a good book recommendation.
